Heart palpitations are irregular heartbeats that should be observed by a doctor without delay.
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute says triggers may include:
- Feeling strong emotions.
- Engaging in strenuous activity.
- Taking certain medications, including decongestants or diet pills.
- Taking illegal drugs or consuming nicotine, caffeine or alcohol.
- Having certain medical conditions, including anemia or thyroid disease.
