Health Tip: Help Prevent Skin Cancer
By LadyLively on June 14, 2017
To help reduce your risk of skin cancer, it’s all about protecting yourself from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.
The Skin Cancer Foundation advises:
- Stay in the shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Wear a hat with a wide brim, and sunglasses with UV protection.
- Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to any exposed skin. If you’ll be in the sun all day, choose a water-proof sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.
- Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outdoors. Reapply every two hours; more frequently if you’re swimming or sweating.
- Don’t allow infants younger than 6 months to be in the sun. It’s not advised to use sunscreen on them.
- Each month, inspect your skin. Each year, see a doctor for a skin check.
