Health Tip: Remedies for Constipation
By LadyLively on December 13, 2019
More than half of older adults regularly deal with constipation, says Harvard Medical School.
From lack of fiber and fluids to ignoring the urge to “go,” constipation can have many causes. While laxatives are a quick way to get going again, there are other remedies for constipation.
The school suggests managing constipation through diet and lifestyle:
- Stay hydrated with four-to-six glasses of water per day. Limit coffee and soda.
- Bulk up on fiber. Get at least 25 grams of fiber daily.
- Get on a daily toilet schedule. After meals is the optimal time.
- Don’t strain. Use a stool softener to make bowel movements easier.
