To improve your eating habits, start by shopping for healthier foods. Knowing a few key words on product labels can help you make better choices.
The New York State Department of Health suggests looking for:
- Leaner cuts of meat. Look for the words “loin” or “round” for the leanest cuts, and opt for “select” over “prime” or “choice.”
- Skinless poultry or seafood.
- Fat-free or low-fat dairy products.
- Foods that are lower in fat, cholesterol and saturated fat.
