With the arrival of spring comes freshly grown foods.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests:
- Opt for fresh, nutrient-rich spinach in salads and other meals. Spinach helps build strong muscles and bones.
- Dig into vitamin C-rich strawberries, which also are a great source of manganese and fiber. Add strawberries to your favorite treats, from yogurt to smoothies to cereal.
- Enjoy the colorful varieties of asparagus. To make it more appealing to kids, bake the spears in a mixture of egg, Panko crumbs and Parmesan cheese.
- Enjoy yogurt, which provides much-needed calcium for bones. Eat a light yogurt parfait loaded with cereal, berries and other fruit as the weather warms up.
