Osteoporosis occurs when bones become thin and brittle, increasing the risk for fractures.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mentions these risk factors for osteoporosis:
- Being a postmenopausal woman.
- Being white.
- Being an older adult.
- Having a small frame.
- Getting insufficient dietary calcium.
- Getting insufficient exercise.
