Health Tip: Understanding Breast Biopsy
By LadyLively on May 1, 2019
A doctor may call for a breast biopsy when he or she is suspicious about an area of the breast.
A breast biopsy is a test that includes removal of tissue or fluid. The removed cells are then examined to check for breast cancer.
Typically, the procedure is performed in a hospital setting with an IV and medication to make the patient drowsy.
About 80 percent of women who have breast biopsies do not have breast cancer, the National Breast Cancer Foundation says.
