Health Tip: Take Charge of Your Health

By on March 17, 2016

Medical errors can happen to anyone, but there are things you can do to reduce your risk.

Here’s some advice from the American Academy of Family Physicians:

  • If you’re able to choose the hospital, pick one with significant experience in performing the procedure that you’ll have done.
  • At the time of discharge, talk to your doctor about your recovery at home. Ask about which medications you’ll take, and when it’s safe to resume normal activities.
  • Make sure you fully understand the pending procedure. Bring a friend or family member to help if you need it.
  • Ask any nurses or physicians if they have washed their hands before they touch you.
