CDC Investigating Another Illness Outbreak on Cruise Ship
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Sunday that it was looking into a possible norovirus outbreak on a cruise ship that had just docked in Florida after a Caribbean cruise.
The ship, Holland America’s MS Veendam, docked in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday after a tour where 114 passengers and 10 crew members came down with the highly transmissible virus, CNN reported.
A CDC team of investigators will “conduct an environmental health assessment and evaluate the outbreak and response activities,” the agency said.
The outbreak is just the latest in a number of norovirus outbreaks that have plagued cruise ships over the past month. According to CNN, similar outbreaks occurred on Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas and Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess cruise ships, involving a total of around 800 sick passengers and crew.
