Here are some of the latest health and medical news developments, compiled by the editors of HealthDay:

Coffee and Beer Top Food/Beverage Tweets

Coffee and beer are the three most tweeted-about foods/beverages, according to a new study.

“We collected 80 million geotagged tweets from 603,363 unique Twitter users across the contiguous United States,” the University of Utah researchers wrote in the Journal of Medical Internet Research – Public Health.

One surprising finding was that only five percent of Twitter users mentioned food/beverages, NBC News reported.

There were 250,000 tweets mentioning coffee and more than 200,000 mentioning beer. The other beverages and foods in the top 10 were pizza, Starbucks, IPA (beer), wine, chicken, barbecue, ice cream and tacos.

The researchers also found that fewer than 2 percent of tweets mentioned physical activity, and that walking was far more common than any other type of exercise, NBC News reported.

Pfizer Announces Cheaper Version of Remicade

A cheaper version of Johnson & Johnson’s immune disorder drug Remicade will soon be available.

Pfizer said Monday that it’s less expensive version, called Inflectra, will be in pharmacies by late November and will be sold at a 15 percent discount to the list price for Remicade, the Associated Press reported.

Remicade is approved for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, colitis and other immune system disorders.

Both Remicade and Inflectra are biosimilar drugs and will be the only two such drugs sold in the United States, the AP reported.
