Health Tip: Keep Babies Warm During Winter
By LadyLively on February 3, 2015
The sometimes frigid temperatures of winter mean taking extra precautions to keep babies warm and comfortable.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends:
- If you and baby are heading outdoors, dress baby in several thin layers. Also remember warm boots, hats and mittens.
- Generally, baby should be dressed in one more layer than an adult would need in the same environment.
- For sleep, dress baby in a warm one-piece sleeper and wearable blanket. But don’t add a blanket, pillows or bunting to the crib, as these increase the risk of SIDS.
- If you have to use a blanket to keep baby warm, use a thin blanket that is tucked beneath the crib mattress and is pulled up no higher than baby’s chest.
