Health Tip: Learn About Processed Foods

Not all processed foods are unhealthy, experts say.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers this advice:
- Foods range from minimally to heavily processed. Minimally processed foods include cut and bagged vegetables, canned tuna or roasted nuts. These are generally healthier than heavily processed foods, such as microwavable dinners.
- Some processed foods, such as milk and juice, are fortified with vitamins.
- To wise up on processed foods, remember to read labels and see what’s included. Check food contents for sugar, sodium and fat to get a better idea of what you’re buying.
