Health Tip: Make Grocery Shopping Faster and Cheaper

By on March 15, 2016

Grocery shopping for the healthy foods you need doesn’t have to be a lengthy or expensive experience.

Here are suggestions from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics:

  • Avoid going to the grocery store when you’re hungry, which will lessen the temptation to over-buy.
  • Create a shopping list, and buy only the things on it. Organize it by supermarket section, and opt for items that are on sale.
  • Stock up on frozen fruit and vegetables. If you choose fresh, focus on veggies that stay longer, such as broccoli, carrots, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Look for items sold in single-serve portions.
  • For meat, ask the butcher for smaller servings if you’re shopping for just yourself. For bread, buy a smaller loaf and freeze a portion for later.
