Health Tip: Kids Should Learn Microwave Safety
By LadyLively on September 22, 2016
Kids can learn to prepare easy microwave meals and snacks, but they should know some simple safety rules first.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends:
- Enabling only children who are old enough to read, understand and properly use a microwave.
- Having potholders nearby, and teaching children to always use them when removing food.
- Explaining to children the importance of stirring microwaved food before eating to distribute heat and avoid burns.
- Teaching children how to open containers so that steam doesn’t blow directly into the face or hands.
