Blue Bell Creameries Fined $850,000 Over Listeria Outbreak
Blue Bell Creameries has been fined $850,000 in connection with a 2015 listeria outbreak that caused three deaths.
Texas health officials said the company must pay $175,000 within 30 days and the remainder of the fine within 18 months, United Press International reported.
Blue Bell also agreed to allow state inspectors full access to its plant and to alert state officials of any positive listeria test results.
“The company must maintain its ‘test and hold’ procedures for all finished product, meaning ice cream must be found to be free of pathogens before it can be sold to the public,” the health department said, UPI reported.
