Health Tip: Older Children Need a Bedtime Routine, Too
By LadyLively on June 10, 2015
Older children need a consistent bedtime and wind-down routine as much as infants and toddlers do.
The American Academy of Pediatrics advises:
- School-aged children should take a few minutes every night to tidy up the bedroom before bed.
- Middle school-aged children may have a less strict bedtime routine on the weekends, but wake time should not vary by much.
- Bedtime routines should be flexible, but impose limits on bedtime delays.
- Gradually give your child more independence over the bedtime routine as the child grows older.
